Ponies (UK) has extended its style & performance classes to include riders of all ages
Senior riders who enjoy jumping and showing, but don’t have a top class show horse, have a new “style & performance” championship to look forward to.
The classes, which work on a points system, are organised by Ponies (UK) and are supported by Blue Chip Feed Balancer. Each competitor jumps a simple round of fences, followed bya free style show lasting 2mins. The horse’s conformation is not judged.
Fifty points are awarded for a clear round, with deductions for refusals and knock downs, while the style of the jumping round can earn up to 20 marks. A further 30 marks are available for the individual show, which must include halt, walk on a long rein, ordinary trot serpentine, extended trot on the diagonal, canter serpentine with change of lead and an extended canter on the diagonal, in any order.
Ponies UK’s style & performance classes have previously only been open to riders up to 25 years of age riding horses not exceeding 158cm.
“This class was introduced to encourage riders who train their horses well but do not have a show horse,” says Ponies (UK) chairman Davina Whiteman. “The open competition is suitable for all types of horse and rider and is an excellent springboard for individuals who want a taste of the affiliated showing world.”
Qualifying classes are taking place around the country with the final being held at the Summer Championships at Peterborough on 13-17 August.
