Show jumpers from all over the world take up a new challenge at the Essex International (CSI-C) horse show this month
Britain’s leading show jumpers will take on contenders from New Zealand, the United Arab Emirates and Bermuda at the Essex International (CSI-C) horse show at Great Leighs (Essex County Showground) from 14-16 July.
The three-day show is part of the BSJA/Horse & Hound “Golden Jubilee Tour” that was devised by the British Show Jumping Association to mark this special year of its patron, the Queen.
It comprises four international events over a three-week period to make it make it viable for riders to travel to the UK from across the globe.
Top British riders entered at Essex include John, Michael and Robert Whitaker, Robert Smith, Di Lampard, Tim Stockdale, Mark Armstrong, Damian Charles, Richard and James Davenport and James Fisher.
John Renwick, the BSJA national points champion, along with Annette Lewis and Alan Clutterbuck will represent Essex in the international classes.
A packed programme of national classes backs up the feature events, culminating in Tuesday’s (16 July) Grand Prix, with £7,500 to be won.
This class will also be featured in a two-hour TV special about the Golden Jubilee Tour to be shown on Sky Sports 2 on 24 July at 8.30pm.
Jumping starts at 8am daily. Admission to the Essex International is free and there will be trade stands, refreshments and a licensed bar.
Regular visitors should look out for new signposts to the showground: access will be via the large roundabout on the new A131 Great Leighs by-pass at the Moulsham Hall Lane end.
