International dressage action during Hickstead’s Derby meeting will include a CDIO Nations Cup
A chance to see the British team for the World Equestrian Games compete prior to leaving for Spain is on offer at the international CDIO dressage at Hickstead, (21-25 August).
Richard Davison, Peter Storr, Emile Faurie and Laura Richardson will all be riding their World Games horses, and there will be a team send-off on the final day of the competition.
Other teams from the major dressage nations in Europe; Germany, the Netherlands and France will contest the CDIO Nations Cup, one of only three official international team events comparable to the Olympics.
International competitors include Dominique d’Esm‚ (France); Heike Holstein (Ireland); Patty Mayer (USA) and Anja Plonzke (Germany). Shannon Duek will be competing for Canada and Japan has entered two riders, Mieko Yagi and Kuranono Saito.
Renowned international judge Trond Asmyr, who has been officiating in the UK for the past 10 years, said: “Hickstead is a great venue. It’s unusual to see a national show with such a fantastic set up, even on the continent, and the event is as good as any that I have judged at abroad.”
Having a ball
Another highlight of CDIO is the Great Hickstead Ball, to be held on Saturday 24 August with hit 1960s Motown band, The Drifters, providing the entertainment.
The event will include a champagne reception and dinner followed by an auction and raffle with proceeds going to the Mark Davies Injured Riders Fund and Dressage at Hickstead.
Interesting lots inthe auction will include a George Bingham bronze and an unusual pair of Tim Nathan drawings, while the raffle includes an original dressage pastel by equestrian artist, Hayley Albrecht.
