The Variety Clubs annual race meeting at Sandown Park gives race-goers the chance to mingle with a host of celebrities
Stars will be descending on Sandown Park for the Variety Club’s 44thAnnual race meeting on 31 August 2002.
Celebrities will be greeted at the front entrance in traditional style with a red carpet, paparazzi and dancing girls.
Between races horse-drawn carriages will take them down the racecourse in front of the stands.
Former Eastenders’ star Tamsin Outhwaite will be there, along with Nigel Havers and John Leslie while the day’s host Jeremy Beadle will be keeping the crowds entertained.
This year is the Variety Club’s 40th anniversary of donating a Sunshine Coach at Sandown and one of the celebrities will make the presentation of this year’s coach to St Bartholemew’s School in Kent.
The day also sports a quality racecard, which includes a Listedrace, the Variety Club Atalanta Stakes, at 2.40pm and Group 3 Iveco Solario Stakes at 3.10pm.
A variety of other entertainment will also be on offer including jazz bands, steel drums, raffle, clowns, face-painting and a bouncy castle, setting the scene for an ideal family day out.
Sue Ellen, managing director of Sandown Park, said: ” We are delighted to have hosted The Variety Club’s Annual Race Day for the past 44 years, and the event goes from strength to strength.”
The first race takes place at 2.05pm, with celebrities scheduled to arrive from 11.30am onwards.
Admission is £18 for Premier enclosure, £13 for the Grandstand and £5 for The Park. Students can receive a 50% discount with their NUScards, entry for accompanied children under the age of 16 is free.
