Two livery yards have become the first to earn their “green plaque” in the new BHS livery yard approval scheme
Drumcarrow livery yard in Fife, Scotland and Littleton Manor Equestrian Centre in Reigate, Surrey, have become the first two yards to earn their green plaque in the British Horse Society’s livery yard approval scheme.
The British Horse Society Livery Yard Approval Scheme was launched at the Royal International Horse Show. Within the first week of its launch, it attracted more than 200 enquiries.
The scheme is designed to increase and maintain standards, while the information pack available provides help for anyone setting up a new yard.
Nancy Pinchen, who took over Littleton Manor in spring last year, said. “We have 12 boxes for full and part liveries, as well as other stables where we train racehorses”.
“I applied for this new scheme because I thought it would help to generate business, as well as making sure I keep up to date with things like legislation and Health and Safety”.
“It is an initiative which will keep everyone up to scratch and help horse owners, as well as proprietors”.
Hamish Lohoar together with his wife Alayne, and their two sons run Drumcarrow livery yard. Set in a picturesque 150 acres near St Andrews, they have 45 liveries ranging from grass to full livery
“I’m absolutely delighted to have received our green plaque,” said Hamish. “I’d like to think I am proactive and achieving this approval has definitely made me much more aware of health and safety issues.”
