Event riders can look forward to more events, and less chance of being balloted out, during next year
Eventers will get more opportunities to compete in 2003, with a total of 177fixtures scheduled – an increase of 25% on this year, British Eventing’s sport and technical manager Tim Hadaway announced at the British Eventing (BE) AGM last week.
Intro, pre-novice and novice sections have been significantly boosted to address the severe balloting problems experienced this season.
While the extra dates are partly due to existing venues adding additional competitions, a number of new sites have agreed to hold BE events, along with several former courses, including Crockstead Park in Essex, returning to the fold.
Tim Hadaway commented: “We are delighted that so many new venues have decided to hold BE events in 2003, and that many long-standing supporters are to add extra dates.This is a growing sport and we must cater for all those who want to take part.
“However, it is vital that we ensure that events are viable – there is little point in new venues coming on board only to find that they cannot affordto stage the events after a couple of years. BE has just embarked on a study of the factors in event sustainability, which I hope will provide the solution to keeping fixtures going.”
