Former flat jockey Bob Weaver, who is now a successful and respected equine dentist based in Herefordshire, has won the 2002 Griffins Richard Davis Award – the Jockeys Employment & Training (JETS) annual career development prize worth £2,000.
Runner-up is former conditional and NH jockey Gary Crone, who moved on from race riding and a head lad’s job with David Gandolfo to qualify as a full-time firefighter with the Oxfordshire Fire Service.
In addition, Injured Jockeys’ Fund beneficiary Michael McGonagle has won aJETS Special Recognition Award to mark his achievements in training as a medical massage practitioner specialising in Chinese and Indonesian techniques.
