Self-confessed horse-doper, Dermot Browne, has been warned off for a further 20 years. The shamed ex-jockey and trainer was banned at a disciplinary hearing at the Jockey Club’s Portman Square headquarters in London yesterday (Thursday 21 November).
Browne admitted his crimes on the recent BBC Panorama television programme. He was previously warned off for 10 years in 1992 for his part in racehorse doping in the early 90’s. That ban had expired and he is now faced with another 20 years.
“It’s more or less what I expected,” said Browne. “I came here today to draw an end to this. It is something that has been going on for an awful long time. Everything is straightforward. I breached the rules and admitted everything to them.”
He added: “There are an awful lot of hard working and honest people in racing and I had a good time in the sport.”
Browne handed over a letter to the Jockey Club with the names of people he believes the authorities should investigate.
“I got involved with some of the wrong people and sadly some of them are still there now. I handed over a letter with some names and will leave it to them,” added Browne.
