The final selections are underway foryoung British riders hoping to gain a place on the British Equestrian Federation’s (BEF) World Class Start and Potential programme.
The 10-year plan devised by the BEF to support and nurture outstanding riding talent was granted Lottery funding by Sport England earlier last year. The aim is raise the profile and performance of British riders on the world stage.
Riders aged between 18 and 32 who believe they have the potential to win at Olympic level in dressage, show jumping, horse trials and Paralympic dressage were invited to apply. They submitted a CV and reference from an accredited trainer to a panel who then selected a shortlist.
The first selection trial took place yesterday (20 January), when 25 young dressage riders and their horses attended Addington Equestrian Centre, Bucks, for a ridden assessment and formal interview.
Selection for show jumpers will take place on 27-28 January, with trials for eventers taking place on 29-30 January, also at Addington, while Paralympic dressage riders will be under scrutiny at Hartpury College from 30 -31 January.
