The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has announced that it will be sending another group of apprentice jockeys to Hartpury College, following the success of last year’s trip.
The young trainees, all aged between 16 and 18, will attend a six-week residential training programme at the college based in Gloucestershire. The course will include learning and improving riding techniques, horse care, fitness development, English language training and cultural visits.
Last year’s students rodeout for Lambourn trainers Barry Hills and Richard Hannon and gained valuable experience working within the British racing system.
The students will also take part in daily fitness sessions with the Hartpury Academy of Sport coaches, who foundthe jockeys differed from their usual mix of rugby and soccer athletes.
In 2001 Hartpury College signed a collaboration agreement with The British Racing School in Newmarket and their relationship with the HKJC is a clear indication of the college’s continued development in racing education.
The start of the new academic year saw new students accepted onto a new racing course – a National Diploma in Horse Management – Racing Option.
