Advanced eventer dies

  • Jo Marsh-Smith’s advanced eventer, Albie O’G, has died of abacterial infection.

Little Albie O’G could never have been described as the typical eventer, but he won fistfuls of intermediate and advanced one-day events.

Originally considered a one-day specialist, he then won Walldorf CCI** in 2000, was 11th at Blenheim CCI*** the following year and completed Burghley 2002 in 21st place. His owner/rider Jo Marsh-Smith, from Sussex, is devastated by the loss of her 12-year-old gelding.

“It’s like a family bereavement,” she said. “I had looked after him for eight years. He was exceptional, definitely the best horse I’ve ever ridden.”
