Snatched event horse returned

  • Olympic event horse Master Monarch has been returned to Andrew Hoy’s Gloucestershire yard, after former rider Brook Staples had snatched him in a dispute with owner Tom Attwood.

Mr Attwood’s business partner Richard Constant says: “I was asked to mediate between the two parties and I am pleased to say that the ownership of Master Monarch and the separate issue of Brook Staples’s entitlement to a profit share in the horse have now been resolved to the satisfaction of all parties.”

Brook Staples and Jeanette Brakewell, who was third at Badminton last weekend, were seen on CCTV cameras taking the 12-year-old bay gelding from the yard last month.

Brook Staples later released a statement absolving Jeanette Brakewell from any responsibility for the incident and stating that the horse was not being kept at her yard.

He said: “I wish to point out that the decision to take possession of Master Monarch was my own and I take full personal responsibility for the action.

“Miss Brakewell is not involved in the private dispute and no responsibility for myactions should or can be attributed to her.”
