Royal Windsor cancelled

  • Torrential rain throughout most of Saturday led to the cancellation of the final day at Royal Windsor, where only the cones section of the Land Rover Driving Grand Prix, the BDS drive and the DAKS Pony Club games took place behind closed gates.

The decision was made by show director Simon Brooks-Ward at 6.30am, although it was clear on Saturday evening after the King’s Troop’s musical ride that the main Castle Ring would be unusable.

“This is the first time I’ve ever had to cancel a day of any show,” said Simon. “The decision was made for safety reasons for the horses, riders and general public. We had a ‘mini monsoon’ yesterday afternoon and none of the rings or walkways are usable.”

It is hoped that planning permission for the show’s eagerly awaited all-weather surface will begranted quickly.
