Racing unites against OFT

  • Racing is displaying a united front in a bid to combat the Office of Fair Trading’s (OFT) findings that the British Horseracing Board (BHB) is in breach of competition law.

The BHB has decided that its four shareholder members – the Racecourse Association (RCA), Racehorse Owners’ Association (ROA), Jockey Club and Industry Committee – should unite in the face of any changes proposed by the OFT but deemed unsuitable to the running of the industry.

An industry working group will now produce a document for submission to the OFT.Greg Nichols, the BHB’s chief executive, said: “The issues raised by the OFT are so fundamental – and the consequences of the wrong outcomes so great – that we must work together to ensure that British racing continues to modernise in a way which brings benefits to all.”
