Matt Straker has resigned from his post as World Class Performance Director at the British Equestrian Federation after four years in the role, citing personal reasons.
Responsible for fund allocation from UK Sport into the equestrian Olympic disciplines, he set up the performance management structure required to bring equestrian sport in line with other high-profile pursuits.
He came under pressure after Britain’s poor performance at last year’s World Equestrian Games and said afterwards that a major modernising review of the federation was necessary, and under way.
“It is not easy to deliver change,” says Matt. “We need to embrace the multi-sport environment. I wish all the teams the greatest of success in the run-up to Athens, particularly those disciplines which have still to qualify.”
