Farewell to renowned huntsman Jack Dark

  • Jack Dark, Seavington huntsman 1956-83, died on 16 March at the age of 94.

Mr Dark’s father William was Blackmore Vale huntsman when he was a child and he whipped-in to him in his teens. At 16 he went to the Garth in Berkshire, then to the Oakley, where he was second horseman to Lord Beresford.

He served seven years in the Army before returning to hunt service in 1952.

Jack Dark was “a brilliant horseman and huntsman and gave the Seavington many years of good sport”, said chairman Jenny Curtis.
