Blenheim horse trials to support cancer charity in memory of former secretary

  • The Fidelity Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials (12-15 September) will be supporting cancer charity Macmillan this year — in recognition of the event’s former secretary, Juliette Brindley.

Juliette died last August, after suffering from a particularly punishing form of the disease — myeloma — for some time. A successful racing driver, she was a popular and efficient secretary at the event.

Blenheim director Mandy Hervieu explained why they had chosen Macmillan.

“Macmillan nurses do so much to help those who suffer and we know Juliette thought very highly of them,” she said.

The charity provides practical, medical and financial support for people with cancer and their families.

Blenheim’s organising committee will also be award a cup in Juliette’s memory for the best turned out horse and rider at the final horse inspection.

Macmillan fundraising manager, Stella Krajewski hopes to implement several equine-related ideas: “We will be bringing the ponies used in therapy treatments for cancer patients as well as highlighting the other valuable work of Macmillan. We are encouraging Pony Clubs and riding groups to raise money with equine related events through which they can win tickets to Blenheim.”
