A surprise entry has been announced for the first major national dressage fixture of the year at Addington Manor Equestrian Centre, Bucks.
Charlotte Dujardin is entered for Saturday’s grand prix (19 January) on her trainer and mentor Carl Hester’s Olympic horse, Uthopia.
“Can’t keep it to myself,” Charlotte tweeted. “I am going to ride Uthopia in the grand prix at Addington this Saturday — what fun!”
It was at Addington’s High Profile show two years ago that Charlotte made her debut at grand prix — with the double Olympic gold medal winner, Valegro. They won the class with 74.61%.
Carl will also be contesting the grand prix on Saturday, with Aram Gregory’s giant 11-year-old horse, Dances with Wolves. It will be “Golly’s” grand prix debut.
And Carl will also be riding Fine Time IV in the grand prix for Gemma Appleton, who is pregnant.
Fellow Olympic teammate Laura Bechtolsheimer will be riding her homebred, Polar Bear in the advanced medium class. The pair are national champions at this level and have never been beaten in competition.
