Farewell to… former point-to-point trainer Joe Turner

  • The former point-to-point trainer Joe Turner died on 26 November, aged 93.

Based near Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, Mr Turner began training in the 1950s and saddled more than 1,200 winners.

He also had 18 victories in Fakenham’s May hunter chase and steered his children to 13 British national titles.

Mr Turner’s stable was at its peak in the 1970s, the decade in which his son David and daughter Josie regularly topped the riders’ lists.

In 2010, he was the first recipient of the champion owner award.
