British international grand prix dressage stallion Donnersong, who enjoyed a successful career with Carl Hester, has been put to sleep at the age of 22.
A Donnerhall son, “Otto” retired to stud in 2003 and in recent years had been ridden by his owner-breeder Kate Carter.
Amanda Bond of British Dressage said: “Donnersong was such a star. I remember the hush that fell over an arena when he entered; he was such a beautiful horse with true star quality.
“He was also an important horse in recent British dressage breeding history, being one of a few British-bred stallions to go to grand prix and then becoming such a sought after sire himself.
“With such a loyal fan base, I am sure he is a horse that will be remembered for a very long time.”
