A Manchester woman has been jailed for six months for causing the suffering and death of a horse, despite already being banned under another name.
Louise Carroll, of Bromborough Avenue, Withington, was given the maximum penalty under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 when she was sentenced at Manchester Magistrates Court on Monday (24 September).
She was banned for life and had all her horses confiscated after being found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to a horse.
The 18-month-old skewbald cob, was emaciated and had a high worm burden and lice.
It survived for less than two days after it was rescued by the RSPCA on Boxing Day 2011.
Carroll, 30, had been banned from keeping equines for 15 years following an RSPCA prosecution in 2003, under the name Louise Millward.
RSPCA inspector Danni Jennings said: “This horse was in a terrible state when he was found and despite the best efforts of everyone involved, he died.
“We now know she just carried on keeping horses as though nothing had happened, totally ignoring the fact that she was banned.
“She was buying from travellers and from Beeston market, albeit under a new name.”
