Comberton Clancy will not go to HOYS next month

  • Reigning Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) supreme horse Comberton Clancy will not defend his title at Birmingham next month.

Jackie Beatham and Carol Bardo’s all-conquering riding horse, also Royal International (RIHS) supreme last year and £1,000 supreme victor at North of England Summer this term, was unable to compete at Hickstead in July, as he overreached just before his class.

“We gave him plenty of time and he went to Wales and West, where he won,” said Carol. “But when we were warming him up for his class at Edenbridge and Oxted (16 August), he started to look not quite right, so we took him home.

“We have now decided that this will be it for him this season. At the end of the day, it’s only a piece of ribbon and his long-term health is much more important. There’s always another year,” she added.

HOYS preview will be in 27 September issue of H&H.
