A new JumpCross site has been launched in North Cornwall, giving riders in the West Country a chance to hone their skills over coloured fences and natural obstacles.
JumpCross combines the excitement of cross-country with the accuracy of showjumping by using knock-down fences.
The new site at Treroosal Farm in Bodmin includes a wide range of natural features including water crossings, undulating pasture, hills and tree-lined landscapes.
The venture is backed by former showjumper Jenna Sleeman, who will run the facility alongside her family’s farm.
Jenna said: “The JumpCross site is the first of a number of new developments for Treroosal Farm, which will eventually also include a livery yard.”
There are now 14 JumpCross venues across the UK, and the nearest to Treroosal Farm is Broadhalls Farm, near Newton Abbott – 50 miles away.
The sport’s inventor, Robin Dunlop, said: “We developed JumpCross because we wanted to take away the worry of riding over fixed fences and get riders to concentrate on how they were riding their horse across the terrain.
“In JumpCross training sessions the height of the fences can be altered to suit the individual, helping riders progress whatever their ability.”
The first JumpCross event to be run at Treroosal Farm will be an open day and training opportunity on 25 August.
