Royal International supreme horse and pony crowned at Hickstead

  • After taking the hunter championship earlier in the week, Katie Jerram and Dunbeacon were on a mission to win the big one and they duly claimed the Winston Churchill Trophy as the British Horse Society supreme ridden horse champions.

Katie knows how best to utilise Dunbeacon’s great movement, presence and manners and they scored 25 points out of 30 from judges Lyn Petersen, Suzanne Dando and Steve Wilde.

“He never, ever lets me down and he is a horse I can always rely on to rise to the occasion — this win means the world to me,” said Katie, who has enjoyed a wonderful nine-year partnership with Dunbeacon.

Finishing on 24 marks to take the next two places were Leon King with the riding horse champion Tattygare Watch This Space and Allister Hood riding Lady Caroline Tyrell’s The Comedian, who had claimed the cob title earlier in the day.

Barely 30 minutes after claiming the show pony tricolour in the international arena, Lucinda Elliott and Dance All Night returned to take the coveted Dick Saunders supreme ridden pony championship.

Owned by David Dixon and Mary Harforth, Dance All Night went so smoothly and confidently in front of the packed stands, and they earned a collective 28 marks from Georgina Andrews, Hon Dawn Gooch and Jennifer Williams.

Taking the next two places were the intermediate champions Karla Gardner riding the intermediate champion Pebbly Diva Du Mont (25) and the working hunter pony champion Noble Danny Macks (24).
