Hartpury College offers bursary to students with disabilities

  • Hartpury College in Gloucestershire is offering financial support to equine students with disabilities for the next academic year.

Students who have yet to finalise their education plans for September can still apply for the “Margaret Giffen Bursary“, to help with fees or costs to improve their learning experience.

“We are delighted that each year, thanks to the generosity of the Margaret Giffen Charitable Trust, we can support talented students study equine at Hartpury,” said vice principal Graham Ledden.

“A unique feature of the bursary is that we can adapt the amount and type of financial support we can offer to suit individual needs.”

Paradressage rider Alex Sutton – who is on the World Class Development Programme – has been awarded £2,000 to help him further his education at Hartpury College.

“The bursary has already helped me during the year as I was able to purchase equipment to help me with my riding,” said Alex.

“I have to ride with bar reins and other adaptions which are made specifically for me by a saddler.

“The bursary also paid for lessons outside of my normal course hours to assist with my on-going training and I am delighted that I can return to the college in September to continue my studies.”

To be eligible for the Margaret Giffen Bursary applicants must have applied to study an equine focused programme at the college and must provide evidence of their disability.
