A book written by the officers and soldiers of the Household Cavalry, telling the story of the part they have played in the state ceremonial events of the past two years, is to be launched this week.
Uniquely British: A year in the life of the Household Cavalry is the official version of the events that took place during 2011 and 2012 – from the Royal Wedding to The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
The book is due to be launched tomorrow (Wednesday 18 July) at Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, in the presence of The Princess Royal
It is a portfolio of images and provides an intimate view behind the scenes of one of Britain’s most iconic institutions in a light rarely captured on camera.
The book’s mastermind, Lieutenant Colonel Dan Hughes, the Regiment’s Commanding Officer, said: “This book embodies the very best of British heritage and tradition, and reflects the high standards of excellence all have come to expect from the Household Cavalry, whether on ceremonial duties in London, or on the frontline in Afghanistan. It is a story of dedication and devoted service to Queen and Country”.
The book is dedicated to those Household Cavalrymen who have lost their lives or been injured while serving their country. It has been put together by the Regiment so that all proceeds can be donated to the Household Cavalry Foundation, a charity which supports soldiers, veterans, casualties and horses.
