The respected Hertfordshire vet Chris Harris has died, aged 69 after a short illness.
Mr Harris set up his own equine practice, C P Harris & Associates, in 1974. The business grew to include four equine veterinary surgeons, which provided ambulatory veterinary services across Hertfordshire.
Upon his retirement from clinical work in April 2012, the practice merged with Rossdales to become Rossdales Hertfordshire, where he acted as a consultant before his death on 24 June.
As a child, Mr Harris was a member of the Old Berkeley Pony Club. He also hunted with the Enfield Chace, Puckeridge and Thurlow and the Oxford Draghounds.
In the late 1970s he judged show hunters and during the 1980s he rode in numerous team chases.
Dr Peter Webbon, of the Animal Health Trust said: “Chris was an extremely generous man who built a very successful practice based on his commitment to his client, which was reflected him their respect and affection for him.
“He was a stylish and courageous horseman and it’s a great pity that he didn’t have the change to have more timing riding in what should have been his retirement.”
He leaves a widow, Lorna, five children and three grandchildren. His funeral took place on Friday 6 July.
