Eight people are to appear in court later this month on animal welfare offences after 14 horses were seized from a registered animal charity in Oxfordshire.
The horses were among almost 80 animals removed from Crunchy’s Animal Rescue in Longworth, near Abingdon, by Thames Valley Police earlier this year.
A total of 78 animals were taken into the RSPCA’s care between 20-22 January, including horses, goats, cats, chickens and ducks. The bodies of a horse and rabbit were also removed.
“The RSPCA visited a property in the Longworth area along with a vet in response to concerns raised by members of the public regarding animal welfare,” said a spokesman. “As this is an ongoing investigation, we cannot issue further comment at this stage.”
Angela Russell, Fred Russell, Peter Russell, Robert Russell, Kirsty Russell, Louise Russell, Abigail McHugh and Daniel Bunyan have had summonses issued to them on a total of 16 alleged offences.
They are due to appear at Oxford Magistrates Court on 29 June.
