Carl Hester’s European dressage champion Uthopia is being immortalised in bronze as part of the Olympic legacy.
Sculptor Lorne McKean is creating the work of art as part of the BT Art of Sport project.
She visited Uthopia and Carl at home earlier this month to create a wax maquette – a preliminary model – of the pair performing piaffe.
The final 18in bronze sculpture will go on show at the Clarendon Gallery, Mayfair, London (25-30 June).
“Uthopia loves everything about being under the media spotlight. He has always enjoyed being photographed, petted, patted and generally adored,” said Carl.
Lorne McKean has recently completed bronzes of polo player Adolfo Cambiaso and nine-times Paralympic gold medallist Lee Pearson.
“Uthopia is an incredibly beautiful horse with a lovely character,” she said.
