Sports fans and horse lovers can show their support for Team GB by wearing a newly launched red, white and blue Olympic scarf with pride this year.
The official supporters’ scarves were unveiled by the The British Olympia Association (BOA) and British Paralympic Association (BPA) yesterday (Monday 27 February) as part of the new campaign – Our Greatest Team.
The aim is to “engage the nation and inspire the athletes to success”, by building momentum with the public in the run up to and during this summer’s Games.
All profits will go to the BOA and BPA to help British athletes.
The Olympic scarf incorporates 900 figures to represent the 900 athletes of Team GB and ParalympicsGB, 900 hearts “to express the nation’s special love for each of them” and 900 stars “to recognise that every one of our athletes is a true star”.
There are also national landmarks “to represent the fact that the athletes are drawn from every corner of the land” and 60 hands to symbolise 60million supporters.
Each of the 26 Olympic sports is also represented, together with English roses, Welsh daffodils, Irish flax and Scottish thistles – plus the date of the opening ceremony.
The official Paralympics scarf features a lion motif “to portray the courage, talent and determination of ParalympicsGB athletes” as well as 60 hands to symbolise the 60million supporters and a map of Great Britain.
Both designs are available at Next in 50cm and 90cm squares – priced £5 and £10.
