England and Manchester United footballer Wayne Rooney has named his new racehorse Switcharooney.
The two-year-old colt was bought by the footballer and his wife, Coleen, for £63,000 in December.
The unraced colt is by Bahamian Bounty and out of Amazing Beauty. He is in training with Tom Dascombe – who is based at Manor House Stables in Cheshire, the yard owned by Rooney’s teammate Michael Owen.
Rooney’s first choice of name was Oceans Seven, but the name was unavailable as it is already registered with Weatherbys.
Switcharooney is one of two racehorses owned by Wayne and Coleen. The other is a three-year-old bay colt called ‘Tomway’ – named after Rooney’s father, Thomas Wayne Rooney.
Both horses are expected to be racing from April onwards.
The Rooneys have also registered their own set of racing silks, which are pink and white.
“You can bet that these names will go in every punter’s notebook,” said Rod Street of Racing for Change. “Rooney has a great strike rate so it’s hard to imagine that his nags won’t score as well.”
