Dead horse found dumped near Bolton

  • A dead horse has been dumped in a lane near Bolton.

The horse was found by a teenage girl who was going to see her own horse at 7.50am on Monday 13 February.

The animal was found wrapped in black bale wrapping chained to railings in Slack Lane, in Westhoughton. The filly is thought to be around 18 months old.

Greater Manchester Police and the RSPCA are investigating.

“We believe the filly had died elsewhere and been brought to the lane in the early hours of the morning to dump,” Danni Jennings, the RSPCA inspector on the case told H&H.

“There was no CCTV and no witnesses so we are appealing for help. The fact it was tied to a fence is more an indication of how it was offloaded from the vehicle.

She was emaciated and was missing an eye – but we are unsure as whether that was due to humans or other animals. But whoever it was allowed her to starve. She may have been dead a while.”

Last week H&H reported a horse had been found dead dumped in a wood in South Yorkshire.

Ms Jennings added there the RSPCA is seeing an increased amount of dumped horses in the north of England – particulary those under the age of two.
