Brigstock Horse Trials has been dropped from the British Eventing (BE) calendar as its venue, the Fermyn Woods Hall Estate, is being sold.
A BE spokesman told H&H the Northamptonshire event “will not run in 2012 nor the foreseeable future”.
Current landowners and horse trials organisers, David and Mary Laing, are moving after nine years at Fermyn Woods Hall.
The Laings re-established Brigstock Horse Trials after it had lain dormant for seven years and it has now run for six successful years
Little Downham Horse Trials in Ely, Cambs, will move forward from its usual dates in June to run in place of Brigstock (18-20 May).
“Brigstock has enjoyed great support from an amazing group of volunteers who, with the organising team, and of course the strong entry lists of riders have contributed to the event’s success,” said Mr Laing.
“We are very grateful to BE and the whole team for such strong support over the years.”
A BE spokesman added: “If the property’s new owners wish to restart the event, they’d have to get in touch with us and go through a process, so it would be up to them.”
New organiser for Brechin Castle
Former Kirriemuir organiser, David Reid is taking over as organiser of the popular Scottish one-day-event, Brechin Castle (5 May).
David has been chief steward of Brechin Castle, in Angus, for 10 years and is looking forward to taking on this popular BE90, BE100 and novice event.
BE describes the cross-country course, which was initially designed by Captain Mark Philips, as “an excellent first time course”.

Local training news on BE website
BE has also launched a new training and education area on its website – www.britisheventing.com/training
It lists regional training courses by BE-accredited coaches and is available for members and non-members to access.
“The site is easy to use with an easy drop-down menu to find courses at the relevant level in your area,” said a BE spokesman.
The content will be regularly updated by BE’s network of regional training organisers and courses can be booked online.
