Severed head of Shetland pony found in Co Durham


  • The severed head of a Shetland pony has been found in Co Durham.

    Trigger, a seven-year-old Shetland, was reported stolen from his paddock in Spennymoor on 9 November.

    But when owner Patricia Lister was out searching for Trigger on Wednesday (16 November) when she she came across his severed head on a track, about a ten-minute walk away from his paddock.

    “My heart just plummeted,” Ms Lister told local press. “I hoped it was not Trigger, but then I saw the markings on the face and I felt physically sick, there was no doubt it was him.”

    Ms Lister has since found one of her ducks beheaded and three others missing.

    Co Durham Police are investigating. Trigger’s body hasn’t been found yet.

    
PC Paul Colman said: “We are carrying out extensive enquiries to find the person responsible for this. The owner is naturally extremely distressed, and we would welcome contact from anyone who may have information about the incident.”
