Fake British Horse Society inspector targeted Northamptonshire yard

  • People in Northamptonshire are being warned to look out for a woman posing as an official British Horse Society (BHS) inspector – following an attempted break-in at a yard.

The staff showed her around the yard on 7 September believing her to be performing an annual spot check.

The woman claimed to be taking photos for a portfolio.

Two days later somebody tried to break into the tack room.

The BHS does carry out annual unannounced spot checks but its inspectors carry identification.

Chris Doran from BHS said: “All of our inspectors carry photo ID cards so always ask to see them.

“If they do not produce one then ring us to confirm the identity of the inspector.

“We would not be taking photos of the yard on such an inspection unless the owner expressly asked us to.

“We have rung all of our approved yards in the area to warn them about this person.”
