Racehorse trainer Barry Hills announces retirement

  • Lambourn-based racehorse trainer Barry Hills is to retire after 42 years in the sport.

Barry, who has trained nearly 3,200 winners in his career, will hand over the reins to his 32-year-old son Charlie, who is currently assistant trainer, after the Ebor meeting at York (17-20 August).

Barry, 74, started his career in 1969 after setting up as a trainer with the money he won placing a bet on the horse Frankincense in the 1968 Lincoln Handicap.
