Endurance on top at The Grange futurity evaluation

  • The 2011 Baileys Horse Feeds/British Equestrian Federation (BEF) Futurity Evaluations continued on Thursday 14 July at The Grange, Devon with the four young horses from different disciplines all attaining higher first premiums.

The top score of the day, 8.82, was awarded to the endurance three-year-old, Yawl Hill Maverick (pictured right), by successful in-hand Arab show stallion, H Tobago.

Owner and breeder Kirsty Wiscombe from the Yawl Hill Stud bred this bay gelding out of her 7/8 TB mare Burrowshot Lass, who was on the endurance intermediate squad in 2000. Experienced evaluator Jo Claridge commented that Yawl Hill Maverick is a possible international horse.

Barum Diamante topped the eventing section and was second overall with a score of 8.75. This bay filly foal, by AES registered Jumping stallion Urkel, impressed evaluators Bridget Parker, Judith Davis and Mark Shaw. Owner/breeder Claire Howarth is a futurity regular and has added to an already good record with offspring from her consistent mare Royalbrook Supreme.

The dressage colt foal, Hillgrounds Wolkenhall, scored 8.68 for his owner/breeder Clare Skinner. Out of the KWPN mare Akilah, he is from the first crop of Wolkenderry Hann. Wolkenderry Hann was bred for dressage, but is now successfully eventing with Alex Hua-Tin.

The fourth horse to claim a higher first premium was another foal, this time from the showjumping section. Chicago Niaish is by Broadstone Chicago, out of the SHB Rosa II, and achieved a score of 8.54 for owner/breeder Corienne Hall.
