One of the UK’s leading equine veterinary practices is doing its bit for charity this summer.
Newmarket-based Rossdale & Partners hosted its own charity bike ride on Sunday, 26 June, and raised £16,000 for two charities — Animal Care in Egypt (ACE) and Addenbrooke’s Hospital Cancer Ward E10.
71 cyclists, comprising Rossdale staff, friends and family, cycled a collective distance of 4,100 miles, which is the distance from Rossdale’s clinic in Exning to ACE’s clinic in Luxor, Egypt — and two thirds of the way back!
Involved in the team were 22 vets and five vet nurses. The group cycled across Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk, choosing either a 25- or 100-mile route on what turned out to be one of the hottest days of the year so far.
And the emergency on-call team got involved too, cycling in relay on static bikes based at the hospital. This ensured that there was full cover at all times for in-patients and emergency admissions. Despite a busy weekend of emergency referral admissions, the team managed to cycle a collective distance of 100 miles during quieter moments.
Rossdales already has strong links with the charity ACE, sending one vet and vet nurse to work with the charity each year.
