Appeal for owner of ‘lost’ Shetland pony hit by van

  • A horse lover in Cumbria is appealing for the owner of a Shetland mare who was hit by a van near her home to come forward.

Susan Chappelhow is looking after the skewbald mare after she was in a collision with a van on the A66 near Crackenthorpe on Friday (1 July). The mare is making a good recovery, but there are no clues as to who the owner is or where the mare has come from.

Miss Chappelhow said: “It is unsure where the pony has come from but she is producing milk so it is likely there is a foal somewhere.”

Although the mare’s feet need trimming, she is said to be in good condition. Anyone with information should contact Miss Chappelhow, tel: 07900 910356.
