Jockey Isabel Tompsett, seriously injured in a fall at Fakenham on Sunday, is reported to be showing signs of improvement.
Miss Tompsett, 28, remains unconscious at Addenbrokes hospital, but, assisted by a ventilator, is able to make some attempts at breathing for herself. She is also able to move all her limbs independently.
Lisa Hancock of the Injured Jockeys Fund said: “Isabel’s family were reassured to hear by doctors that she is showing some positive signs.”
Miss Tompsett, an equine vet, was champion female amateur over jumps in the 2009-10 season. She sustained her injuries when thrown by Leopald in the 2m 4f hurdle handicap at the Norfolk racecourse.
