The Carpetright flooring company — of which prominent owner Lord Harris is chairman — is to sponsor the Hickstead Derby.
The competition is the highlight of the British Jumping Derby Meeting (23–26 June).
Lord and Lady Harris are already tremendous supporters of horse sport, owning a number of top showjumpers including Tina Fletcher’s ride Hallo Sailor and Unique IX and Laura Renwick’s Oz De Breve.
“We are delighted that Carpetright have agreed to sponsor Hickstead’s most famous event,” said Hickstead director Lizzie Bunn.
“Lord and Lady Harris have shown huge commitment to equestrianism over the years, and we are really looking forward to working with them over the coming months.”
The Carpetright Derby will be held at 2.30pm on Sunday 26 June, and will be televised live on Sky Sports.
With a prize fund of £120,000, including £40,000 to the winner, it is one of the most fiercely fought showjumping classes in the world.
Last year marked the 50th anniversary of the Hickstead Derby. It was won by Guy Williams and Skip Two Ramiro, with Tina Fletcher and Promised Land finishing second.
