Three horses have died in a barn fire in Ohio.
The fire broke out at around 9am on Monday (22 November) in Hanover Township, Millvale.
Three show horses were killed and another suffered smoke inhalation and minor burns.
Two reining horses survived the blaze.
Owner Nancy Birmingham is recovering in hospital.
The fire was put out in around 20 minutes and the cause is under investigation.
Neighbour Dee Meyers and two passers-by helped rescue the three surviving horses from the barn.
“It’s just a horrific situation. Families come in different configurations, and for Nancy this was her family, so it’s a loss for her, a tragic loss,” Dee Meyers told local press.
“I needed help and there was some gentlemen who driving down the road and stopped, saw the fire, ran back and helped and we were able to open the other door, and were able to rescue the third horse, which is her current show horse.”
