First all-female jockey card to take place at Carlisle racecourse

  • Carlisle racecourse is set to host its first all-female jockey card.

The Ultimate Ladies Night is to be held on Monday, 1 August 2011.

There will be six-race card with a mixture of pro-am and amateur only races. The feature race will have a minimum of £10,000 prize money.

And the Cumbria-based track claims it is a world first as all riders on the night will be women.

Sarah Oliver chief executive of the Amateur Jockeys Association said: “We applaud Carlisle’s innovation. This certainly should prove highly popular with strong support from northern trainers and lady jockeys.

The evening will raise money for Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Campaign and there will be a charity race for lady riders, not under rules, before the first race on the card.

John Baker, managing director of Carlisle added: “This is a world first and truly unique event. We have already had some tremendously positive feedback and will showcase lady riders and raise money for charity.”
