Katie Jerram wins HOYS supreme horse side-saddle

  • At the end of one of her busiest, and most successful weeks in Birmingham, Katie Jerram deservedly claimed the supreme Horse of the Year Show championship riding her ladies’ hunter Dunbeacon.

Katie’s side-saddle freestyle show in the preliminary judging was a joy to watch, and Dunbeacon then rose to the occasion under the lights to impress judges Graham and Tina Fletcher.

“I can’t believe we’ve actually done it. He [Dunbeacon] was an absolute star. It has been a hectic few days, and this is just reward for all the effort the grooms, and horses have put in,” said Katie.

The riding horse classes put the final champion through to the supreme, Vanessa Ramm and Sirius II taking the title after winning their large division.

The Irish-bred 12-year-old, who was formerly produced by Katie Jerram, has remained at home with Vanessa this year and he has enjoyed a very successful season.

After standing second to Sirius II in the large division, Katie Jerram riding HM the Queen’s Petition took the reserve.

Taking the top two places in the small riding horse class were Helen Whitely-John riding The Queen of Hearts, and Martin Skelton and Foxy Formula.

Yarmouth breeder Bryan Banham claimed the shire horse of the year title with the 10-year-old home-bred mare Acle Sabrina, who was handled by Tony Brown. The mare has been a winner from being a foal, and she has five offspring competing.

“We have had wins, and reserves here before, but this our first supreme,” said Bryan.

Taking second place was Robin Hood’s Stable Rosie, a lovely grey mare exhibited by Jan Verhoeven of the Netherlands.
