Farewell to… showjumper Maureen Holden


  • International showjumper Maureen Holden died at her Norfolk home on 8 July, aged 72 years, following a long illness.

    A regular on the British teams of the 70s and 80s, injury to her horse Mr Vee forced her withdrawal from the 1976 Montreal Olympics but they went on to represent Team GB 56 times.

    Born at Addington, Mrs Holden’s first ride was a pig. She progressed to a pony when she was six and turned professional in 1980.

    She commentated on showjumping for the BBC and was a respected trainer.

    A funeral service will take place at St Peter Mancroft Church, Norwich, on Thursday 22 July, at 11.30 a.m. followed by a private cremation.

    No flowers by request, but donations may be made to Macmillan Cancer Support and sent c/o R.B.Copping & Partners Independent Funeral Service, Chapel Lane, Shotesham, NR15 1YP.
