Pippa Funnell won her third Bramham Horse Trials title this afternoon.
As the rain streamed down, Pippa jumped a clear showjumping round to retain her overnight lead on Roger and Denise Linsoln’s Redesigned.
“In the past he has got a bit lit up in the showjumping so I gave him plenty of work,” said Pippa. “You can see in the way he jumped he’s still big and weak. He jumped the first six or seven fences better — and I probably got a bit tight too [as I went further round].”
Piggy French was not only faultless on Leminton Lets Dance to hold second, but also went clear on Jakata — fifth overnight — to rise to third.
Caroline Powell’s clear on Mac Macdonald raised her from seventh to fourth, while Belgium’s Joris Vanspringel stayed sixth with two time-faults on Lully Des Aulnes.
William Fox-Pitt dropped a place to fifth when Neuf Des Coeurs tipped the first element of the yellow double at fence four.
Andrew Nicholson, third overnight, had warned that showjumping is currently eight-year-old Shady Grey’s weakest phase, and he fell to seventh with both parts of this obstacle down.
Don’t miss H&H on Thursday (10 June) for our full Bramham report and Mark Phillips’s comment on the course.
