Prime minister David Cameron has confirmed that MPs will be given the chance to vote on a repeal of the 2004 Hunting Act.
The coalition government’s policy plan was released this morning, and it contained the statement: “We will bring forward a motion on a free vote enabling the House of Commons to express its view on the repeal of the Hunting Act”.
Stephen Lambert, chairman of the Masters of Foxhounds Association, said: “The important thing is that the government is intending to honour its commitment to having a vote in government time. We are delighted about that and look forward to it happening at an appropriate moment.
“I think everyone is well aware that the government has got many problems on its hands and that hunting must take its place in the queue.”
