Birthday wishes are being sent to showjumping legend David Broome CBE, who is celebrating his 70th today.
David, born in Cardiff, South Wales, became a winning figure in British show jumping at only 19 years, and remained at the top of show jumping for over 30 years.
As a member of the British Showjumping executive board, David is still a prominent figure in the showjumping world, also helping to run the David Broome Event Centre, but he is taking a day away from horses to celebrate his birthday.
“He’s gone out for a game of golf with his sons and we’re going to have a big party this evening, quite a celebration,” Liz Broome, David’s wife, told H&H.
Described as a national treasure, David’s impressive career includes three gold medals in the European Championships, two Olympic bronze medals and an individual gold medal in the World Championships.
David, who also won the King George V Gold Cup six times on six different horses between 1960 and 1991, received an OBE in 1970 and a CBE on the Queen’s Birthday List in 1995.
