Equestrian photography auction for Haiti earthquake victims goes live

  • An online auction featuring work by 20 of Britain’s top equestrian photographers goes live today.

Every penny raised will go to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Haiti Earthquake Appeal.

The original equestrian images are being sold through an online ebay auction, which starts at midday today (28 January) and runs until Thursday, 4 February.

The auction has been organised by photographer Jon Stroud.

“You wouldn’t normally associate a bunch of equestrian photographers with charity work such as this, but the situation in Haiti is desperate,” Jon told H&H.

“All of the photographers have been absolutely fantastic. Not one person turned down the request for support.

“There are going to be some truly amazing images on offer and I am delighted that we have managed to assemble such an illustrious list of contributors. It’s not every day the public gets to bid on original work like this.”

Each image will be signed by the photographer, mounted and framed.

“After seeing the coverage on the news I was pleased to be asked to contribute to such a worthwhile cause,” said H&H staff photographer Trevor Meeks.

Tim Flach, who is donating four images, told H&H: “It seems so important to have the opportunity to donate my work towards the DEC Haiti Appeal, given that Haiti already had scarce resources, even before the catastrophic effects of the earthquake.”

Charlie Sainsbury-Plaice added: “I’m happy to be involved in the cause. As a father of four myself, I would hope that other people would help my family in a similar desperate situation.”

The 20 photographers are Tim Flach, Henry Dallal, Kit Houghton, Trevor Meeks, James Horan, Ed Whitaker, Matthew Seed, Jon Stroud, Bob Langrish, Adam Fanthorpe, Charles Sainsbury-Plaice, Peter Nixon, Steve Parsons, Fiona Scott Maxwell, David Sinclair, Kevin Sparrow, David Miller, Tim Nicholls, Nico Morgan and Tim Spurgeon.
