Farmer and country sports lover Robert Mair died on 20 October, aged 87.
Born in the East Sussex village of Udimore, Mr Mair’s earliest memories of hunting involved days following the Crowhurst Otterhounds.
A field master of the Romney Marsh when the pack still hunted hares, Mr Mair became joint-master of the East Sussex and Romney Marsh when the two packs amalgamated in 1967.
On retirement, he indulged his passion for point-to-pointing and became the owner of the 14.3hh Jacksway, who was ridden by his daughter Clare to 17 wins from 23 starts.
Mr Mair’s funeral was held on 30 October at St Mary’s in Udimore. Andrew Sallis, joint-master and huntsman of the East Sussex and Romney Marsh blew “gone away”.
